National Search for Next Chancellor of The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education

Sapientia Providentia Ductus.The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education invite applications and nominations for the appointment of Chancellor, who will succeed Chancellor Glen D. Johnson upon his retirement on Sept. 30, 2021. The Chancellor serves as the chief executive officer overseeing Oklahoma’s coordinated system of 25 public colleges and universities. The Chancellor will be an innovative, dynamic and strategic leader who will promote comprehensive academic, research and public service initiatives that positively impact the state of Oklahoma. This position offers the opportunity to play a defining role in shaping the future of higher education in Oklahoma.

The State Regents have retained the services of Buffkin/Baker, a global executive search firm, to assist in the search process.

The State Regents released the position profile that outlines the knowledge, skills, abilities and characteristics sought in the next Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.

April 15, 2021 – Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Select Search Firm for the Next Chancellor

The State Regents restarted the search process for the next Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education with the selection of the firm of Buffkin/Baker to lead the search process, as recommended by the appointed search committee.

March 4, 2021 – Oklahoma State Regents For Higher Education Resume Chancellor Search Process

The State Regents announced plans to resume the Chancellor search process paused last spring because of the COVID-19 crisis. At the onset of the pandemic, the State Regents were in the early stages of planning a national search prompted by Chancellor Glen D. Johnson’s planned retirement after more than 14 years as Chancellor of the Oklahoma higher education system. In April 2020, Chancellor Johnson announced that he would extend his planned retirement date of Dec. 31, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021, after the State Regents asked him to consider extending his retirement date due to the pandemic outbreak.
